Easy Ways to Lose Some Weight
No exercise, no diet…? Maybe something to lose!
People are always on the lookout for easy ways to lose weight. However, we’ve also become hesitant when it comes to “easy” claims, and rightfully so. We are all familiar with the myths of weight loss pills. Hard to believe people still buy them. We are not strangers to weight loss scams and supposedly miracle solutions as well.
But Prevention Magazine suggests 5 ways which require no exercise, no dieting, no pills and no miracle solution. We think these are worth your read.
This trick requires nothing more than a stroll over to the thermostat. Turn the heater down a few degrees and you’ll activate a type of body fat that actually burns calories. A recent trial published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism reports that when we’re exposed to cooler temperatures, some of our inert stores of white fat convert to a darker, beige color and begin burning calories.
You may find acupuncture a little intimidating, but your nervous system seems to respond to one simple form—ear acupuncture—by suppressing your appetite. A recent study published in Acupuncture in Medicine suggests that when acupuncturists target five points on the ears that are linked to hunger and digestion, overweight people begin losing weight—without dieting or working out.
Write It Down
There’s one never-fail weight-loss trick: Keep a food diary. Just tracking helps prevent you from overdoing it. And now it’s easier than ever. Instead of having to meticulously write down everything you eat, you can snap a photo of your food with your phone.
Get up, Stand up
It’s no surprise that sitting too much can add pounds. So think about setting up a standing desk for your computer, taking calls on your feet, and responding in person to emails and instant messages.
Take Evenings Off
Imagine not changing your current diet except for one small tweak: Eat only between the hours of, say, 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM. Seems doable, right? If you can pull that off, preliminary research suggests you could shed up to 12% of your current weight in the next three months alone. (For someone who weighs 160, that’s a loss of almost 20 pounds.)
A Piece of Advice
These tips are great for losing some weight. However, you should not expect to lose 20 pounds from these. Not even 10 pounds. You can definitely lose some weight. But it is not comparable to the weight you lose through exercise and healthy eating. If you can combine these tips with some yoga, meditation, (for weight loss? Yes!) or a fitness routine and a great diet, you will see a major difference the next time you get on the scale or body composition monitor.
