Berry Healthy for You!
Oh man! Have you ever had Acai berries? I only recently heard about them, and now I see them everywhere! I was helping some friends with their retreat program in Florida (Board Meetings International) and there was a guy who made Acai berry bowls.
Never having heard of it, I was expecting just a bowl of berries to munch on. Instead, it was like this frozen gelato like form and topped with almonds and coconut flakes (I opted to have chocolate drizzled over mine).
It was the most perfect frozen, healthy, amazing treat after a morning of surfing and Florida summer heat! The guy who made it had fresh, organically grow Acai berries and all the ingredients were wholesome. Even the younger kids loved it.
After having it in Florida, I’ve been hearing about it non-stop everywhere so I figured I should check out it’s various health benefits. Lo and behold — Acai is a superfood! And the health benefits are much like those of a Gogi berry according to the Global Healing Center.
Here are four (of at least 12) health benefits of the Acai Berry.
4 Health Benefits of Acai Berries
by Global Healing Center
1. Promotes Skin Health
Currently, many modern beauty products are carrying acai oil, again due to the oil’s high antioxidant content. What is more, acai oil is a great natural alternative to chemical based skin care products that harm the skin in the long-run. Taken internally, the berries can also give your skin a healthier glow. In fact, Brazilians have been eating acai berries for centuries to treat skin conditions.
2. Aids in Weight Loss
Known by nutritionists as a superfood, acai may help us not only lose weight, but maintain a healthy weight. One interesting study from the National Institutes of Aging found that pulp from the acai berry had the ability to reduce the negative effects of a high-fat diet in laboratory studies on flies.
3. Energy Boost
Due its overall health benefits, taking acai extract can lead to an increased overall level of energy and stamina, and may aid to combat fatigue and exhaustion. Whenever you need a boost, simply eat a handful of berries and you will be ready to go in no time!
4. Improves Mental Function
Preliminary research studies show that acai may prevent mental imbalance in menopausal women.
Buy organically-certified Acai. Not only are they safer, but taste better too. If you can’t find acai berries, another good source of antioxidant fruits are goji berries.
Packs a Healthy Punch
Those aren’t even half the benefits of the Acai berry. I KNOW! One tiny berry that clearly has a lot to offer.
I am loving learning about foods that are good for my body. What I am finding is that healthy foods are delicious, we just need to break out of the mold and mindset that our only options are the sugary, junk-filled, boxed foods that grace the grocery store shelves.
Acai berries, goji berries, blueberries, there is an endless amount of delicious, nutritious food out there that help support our body, rather than tearing it down. Let’s eat more of those! 🙂
